IBC Technologies was established in 1994 with the express purpose of improving the world of hydronic heating. The company's team of experienced boiler engineering and marketing personnel recognized that the latest innovations in combustion control technology, combined with appropriate design-embedded controls, were fundamental foundations for the optimization of new, reliable heating equipment.
Established in Vancouver, British Columbia, IBC set out to develop heating equipment that delivers superior comfort for both residential and commercial use. During the early product development phase, the company's efforts were recognized by the Canadian Institute of Energy with their annual award for outstanding research and development in the field of energy. IBC's first certified unit was the VFC 50-130 wall-mounted, modulating condensing boiler, which featured as a finalist in Canada's national Energy Efficiency Awards in 2000, earning personal commendations from the then federal Minister of Natural Resources Canada.
In 2003, a new model, the VFC 15-150, utilized the latest advances in burner, gas-air mixing, and control technology to become the first 10-to-1 throttle range, residential-scale modulating boiler in North America. A larger unit, the VFC 45-225, followed in 2004, typically used in multiples within commercial buildings.
In 2014, IBC joined forces with INTERGAS, a European boiler manufacturer that has been at the forefront of boiler manufacturing for almost 50 years and is known for its ground-breaking, patented two-in-one heat exchanger design. This partnership strengthened IBC's product lineup and brought proven European engineering to the North American market.
In 2019, IBC became part of the Rheem family of brands. Despite the change in ownership, IBC has continued to operate with its own distinct identity, manufacturing its boilers in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia and maintaining its reputation for innovation and quality. IBC Technologies has made significant innovations in hydronic heating for over 20 years, and continues to commit a large proportion of its resources to research and development projects.
