About Viessmann

Viessmann is a globally recognized leader in high-efficiency heating, cooling, and renewable energy systems. Founded in 1917 as an independent family company, Viessmann has grown into one of the world's foremost manufacturers of heating and industrial refrigeration solutions, with a strong commitment to sustainability and innovation.

The company's story begins with Johann Viessmann, a skilled metal craftsman with a passion for technology, who founded his workshop in Hof an der Saale in 1917. His breakthrough came when he built a faster, more efficient steel boiler for a local gardener, an innovation that sparked a century of progress. In 1937, he moved operations to Allendorf (Eder) in northern Hesse, where the company headquarters have remained to this day.

Johann's eldest son, Dr. Hans Viessmann, transformed the company into a global industrial force. A trained machinist, he modernized production, expanded the team, and launched new products in response to shifting energy demands. In the 1950s and 1960s, he introduced oil-fired and dual-fuel systems, and during the 1970s oil crisis, he focused on energy efficiency and renewable solutions. In 1972, Viessmann opened its first foreign factory in Faulquemont, France, followed by Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, the first site outside Europe, in 1978. In 1976, the first solar collectors were produced, followed by the first heat pumps in 1978.

In 1972, the company also presented the world's first furnace made from stainless steel, a milestone that reflected the company's ongoing commitment to materials innovation and long-term product durability.

In the 1990s, major structural changes shaped the industry, including the shift from floorstanding to wall mounted boilers, from oil to gas, and from gas-fired to condensing technology. Viessmann responded by setting up a new production facility for wall mounted gas boilers while expanding its international sales network. As of 2005, the company launched its "Efficiency Plus" campaign, focusing on energy saving and sustainable processes while expanding its product range through strategic acquisitions covering wood combustion, large heat pumps, combined heating and power systems, and biogas technology.

Today, Viessmann offers a comprehensive range of products including high-efficiency oil and gas-fired boilers, electric boilers, solar thermal systems, domestic hot water tanks, biomass heating, and advanced control technology, with 22 production facilities in 12 countries and a presence in 74 countries worldwide. The Viessmann Climate Solutions division is now part of Carrier, continuing its mission as one of the world's leading providers of efficient climate, water, and air quality solutions.
