Navien was founded in 1978 in Seoul, South Korea, and was known as KyungDong Navien, or KD Navien. In 1988, KD Navien became the first company in Asia to develop and produce a highly efficient, environmentally friendly condensing boiler. This achievement set the tone for a company that would go on to become one of the most innovative names in the water heating and hydronic heating industry worldwide.
In 1982, the company launched Asia's first condensing gas boiler, and by 1991 had produced a gas-fired domestic hot water boiler. Throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, Navien continued to develop its technology and expand its export reach, earning numerous awards for product quality and energy efficiency in its home market of South Korea.
Since 2006, Navien has rapidly emerged as one of the fastest-growing companies in the home comfort sector across North America. A leader in condensing technology, Navien has revolutionized the industry with its line of high-efficiency condensing tankless water heaters, combi-boilers, and wall-hung boilers. Navien was also the first to adopt European standards, the world's highest standard, on all of its boilers, assuring world-class quality in every country where its products are sold.
Navien manufactures its water heaters in South Korea, and its factory in Seotan is considered the largest boiler manufacturing plant in the world. The company has continuously invested in product innovation, introducing features such as the patented ComfortFlow system, which incorporates a built-in insulated buffer tank and recirculation pump, resolving the cold-water sandwich effect and issues of minimal flow rates commonly found in other tankless water heaters.
In 2024, Navien was recognized as the number one selling manufacturer of gas tankless water heaters and wall-hung boilers in North America. Expanding its offerings, Navien now boasts a full line of HVAC products and has ventured into the heat pump water heater market, further solidifying its commitment to sustainable and energy-efficient solutions. With North American headquarters in Irvine, California, Navien operates training centers in California, New Jersey, and Ontario, and sells products throughout Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
